ANSI/TIA-568.0-E: Generic Telecommunications Cabling for Customer Premises

by

ANSI/TIA-568.0-E “Generic Telecommunications Cabling for Customer Premises” was developed by the TIA TR‑42.1 Premises Telecommunications Infrastructure Subcommittee and published in March, 2020.

Scope: This Standard provides structure, topologies and distances, installation, performance, and testing requirements for generic telecommunications cabling. This Standard forms the foundation for premises telecommunications cabling infrastructure design and can be used to address cabling needs when a specific premise standard (e.g., TIA‑568.1‑E for commercial building cabling) does not exist.

ANSI/TIA-568.0-E-1 “Addendum 1, Balanced Single Twisted‑pair Cabling” published in July, 2022 and modifies TIA‑568.0‑E to add single twisted‑pair cabling, as specified in TIA‑568.5, as a recognized media type.

Significant changes from the previous edition include:

  • Recommendation that two category 6A or higher cabling runs be deployed to each wireless access point added
  • Horizontal connection point connectors and Cabling Subsystem 1 topologies that support building system and non-work area device connections added as functional elements
  • Definition of a consolidation point connector added and the consolidation point redefined as an assembly of consolidation point connectors
  • Definition of a horizontal connection point connector added and the horizontal connection point redefined as an assembly of horizontal connection point connectors
  • Calculation for channels to support the equivalent of 90 m of permanent link cable and 10m of cordage with an insertion loss de-rating factor of 1.2 revised to align with TIA‑568‑2.D, which accommodates a wider range of cord lengths and de-rating factors
  • Cords with an insertion loss de‑rating factor of 1.95 (typically 28 AWG) are now permitted
  • Content of TIA-568.0-D-1 (Updated References, Accommodation of New Media Types) incorporated
