TIA-492AAAE: 50/125-µm MMF Specified for WDM (OM5)

by

TIA‑492AAAE “Detail Specification for 50‑µm Core Diameter/125‑µm Cladding Diameter Class 1a Graded‑Index Multimode Optical Fibers with Laser‑Optimized Bandwidth Characteristics Specified for Wavelength Division Multiplexing” was developed by the TIA TR‑42.12 Optical Fibers and Cables Subcommittee and published in June, 2016.

Scope: Recent manufacturing and design enhancements have expanded the capacity of multimode optical fiber to support transmission over a wider range of wavelengths, as well as support wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology. This Standard provides detailed mechanical and performance requirements for the 50‑µm core diameter/125‑µm cladding diameter class 1a graded‑index multimode optical fibers used as a component in the manufacture of OM5 optical fiber cable. These specifications include laser‑optimized bandwidth characteristics specified for enhanced performance for wavelengths in the vicinity of 850 nm to 950 nm.
